Plan
Your Picnic!!
The word picnic probably is derived from the French word "pique-nique,"
which refers to a meal for which each guest contributed a dish to
be served, akin to our potluck. Later on, a picnic evolved into an
excursion where food would be taken outdoors. It was in the 14th century
that some of the earliest picnics are known and are most likely connected
to medieval hunting feasts. At the end of the hunt, the deer would
be cooked (the first barbecue, perhaps?). During the 18th century,
the French and English aristocracy became big picnic followers, albeit
these outdoor feasts were formal events attended by servants with
chairs and table settings of fine china and crystal.
Today,
picnics are less formal and don't require hunting for your meal! A
picnic, regardless of the occasion, always makes the day or night
a bit more festive and memorable. With a little imagination, almost
any meal or celebration can be turned into a picnic! Fancy Food

In
April, Snappy Chef Catering supported the American Cancer Society
by participating in their annual Culinary Carousel. Great food....
Great cause! The chefs at Snappy Chef were happy to prepare two of
their favorite Mardi Gras dishes, King Cake and Etouffee, for hundreds
of guests to experience at the Culinary Carousel. Snappy Chef was
one of several local participants donating food specialties to raise
money for the American Cancer Society. Besides the awesome compliments
from the guests on Snappy Chef's food, our booth won BEST BOOTH
DISPLAY! Congratulations to the American Cancer Society for an
outstanding fundraising event!

They're
selling like hotcakes and raising money for community
organizations! Casino Owner/Chef Doug Simon has donated gourmet dinners
for 10 guests to help several local nonprofit groups with fundraising.
This auction item has been a hit, raising more that $10,000 for local
charities. Chef Simon invites each winning bidder into his home, where
he and his wife Sue, wine and dine them with incredible five course
meal presentations! Check out Chef Doug at work...

Really,
The Disney Institute came to Juniata College and The Casino's Doug
Simon, Cindy Morning Lytle, Sue Cobler, Helen Sickle, and Julie Ramsey
attended
The Disney Institute's "Keys to Excellence" program. The
full-day seminar focused on the Disney
approach to excellence in customer satisfaction and service, management,
leadership and employee loyalty. It was great to see that The Casino
uses many of the same philosophies and practices, but learned many
new and innovative techniques that our staff is working to implement
into our daily practices.
