    From Chef Doug Simon...

Well, another summer and fall are behind us and it's time to gear up for another hectic holiday season. Time seems to have gone by at an amazing clip this year. There has been a great deal of excitement and opportunity for us as we've shared in the joys of party and event planning for so many wonderful occasions. Among them this fall were a number of annual fundraisers. Our community involvement has never been stronger.

In October, The Casino hosted the 11th Annual Chef's Crab and Sea Fest to benefit the St. Vincent De Paul Food For Families Soup Kitchen. With another successful year feeding over 650 guests, this event has raised over $250,000.00 in its 11 year run. More importantly, this year's event was highlighted by the creation of a new foundation by the Central Pa. Community Endowment honoring Sister Paula DelGrosso. The foundation, begun with over $35,000.00 in contributions, will ensure the successful continuation of the good work of the soup kitchen in Altoona and Blair County. Sister Paula and I were both honored that same evening as Blair County Fellows by the Endowment. While the honor itself meant a great deal to me, it was even more meaningful to have received it along with my good friend, Sister Paula.

Other events of the season included the March Of Dimes Signature Chefs' Dinner, The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art's Night of Fashion at the Altoona Museum and most recently, the production and packaging of 1200 quarts of Italian Wedding Soup for the Soup Kitchen's Annual Soup Sale. Many thanks go to our loyal staff, who help us coordinate and service these events, many times giving freely of their time in support of these fine organizations.

It has always been a pleasure to work with these wonderful organizations to help make our community a better place to work and live and I look forward to many more significant opportunities to share our bounty in the years ahead.
